A couple of weeks ago I reported that Charles Tyrwhitt had launched its 2016 Spring-Summer range. T M Lewin has now followed suit and launched its updated 2016 collection. As is always the case, some staples remain whilst a number of new items have been added to the collection.TML have launched with the slogan fit for all creatures great and tall. For a man like me who recognises that fit is the most important element of style, its great to see TML extolling its virtues.
I’m not sure entirely how true it is in practice, however. For example, long armed men like me have trouble finding a fit in TML’s casual shirt collection. Nonetheless, I love the sentiment, all the same. It’s the right direction in which to be going.
Updates include their well stocked shirt collection. Their 4 shirts for £100 offer is present and correct, and there is a new premium shirt collection, which I presume will replace the luxury collection. As per usual, you can get your TML shirt in regular, slim, fitted or super fitted varieties. Updates also feature in the TML suit collection, casual collection and tie collection.
However, perhaps the biggest development is that TML have launched their own shoe collection. This follows a similar move made by Hawes & Curtis a couple of years ago. To be fair to TML, some years ago it was possible to buy shoes from TML.
At some stage TML discontinued their shoe collection in order to concentrate on their core business of fine tailoring. They have now judged the time to be right to return to shoemaking. Personally, I think it’s the right way to go. TML needs to become a one stop shop, capable of supplying all a man’s clothing needs.
However, the TML shoe collection is so far limited to 15 examples of formal shoes and boots, ranging in price from £89 to £149. This compares to a collection of 37 examples offered by Hawes&Curtis and 58 by Charles Tyrwhitt, in each case comprising both casual and formal shoes and boots.
It’s not clear whether TML has employed shoemakers, is using established shoemakers to make shoes to TML’s designs, or have done a deal with established shoemakers to create a collection for TML. I will investigate.Overall, the TML SS16 looks great and the website has also had some helpful improvements. Certainly worth a look.
