Nordstrom Rack

Nordstrom is a US department store, not dissimilar to House of Fraser in the UK. It sells a wonderful range of good quality clothing for men and women. It was at Nordstrom that I picked up a pack of coloured laces in my last US trip last year. Disappointingly they were out of stock in the Baltimore store this trip.

However, the jewel in the crown is Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom Rack is Nordstrom’s own discounted range of items, quite often from previous seasons. Items that might otherwise have ended up in T K Maxx (or T J Maxx if you are in the US) they have kept in house and sold via their own outlet store. Nordstrom Rack is in some cases is different location from Nordstrom, in the store I visited in Baltimore the Rack was in the basement with the upper three floors dedicated to Nordstrom.

Unfortunately, Nordstrom Rack‘s online offering is pretty poor.  Their stores are a great deal better.

The great thing about the Rack is the chance to get most of the range from Nordstrom but at heavily discounted prices. The rack is a great place for accessories. Interested in bow ties or silk handkerchiefs? No problem. A great selection of bow ties from Tommy Hilfiger and silk handkerchiefs are always available form the Rack.

Cuff links, collar bones and tie pins are all available. I picked up a really ingenious set of magnetic collar bones which have the effect of turning any open neck collar into a button down collar with the use of magnets. If like me you don’t like your collars flapping about when you were a shirt without a tie pop these babies in and you get the Simon Cowell effect; your shirt collars stay miraculously folded down. You don’t end up looking like John Travolta in Saturday Night Live.

However what really makes Nordstrom Rack really worth a visit for me are the shoes. A fabulous selection is available including my favourite US names like Allen Edmonds, Cole Haan, and Mercanti Fiorentini, often at prices discounted as much as 50% but more typically 20-30%. Other great brands like Magnanni and English brands like Barker also feature. It is a shoe lovers paradise, with sizes up to 15!

So if you are reading this Stateside, or planning a trip to the US some time soon make a trip to Nordstrom Rack to top up on your accessories.
